Getting Started with Therapy

Therapy is for anyone who wants support, clarity, or personal growth. If you’re feeling stuck, anxious, overwhelmed, depressed or uncertain about the next steps in life, therapy can help. It’s a misconception to think you need to be in crisis before seeking therapy.

Absolutely not, you don’t need a diagnosis to start therapy. Many people seek counselling for everyday stress, life transitions, and personal growth.

That’s completely okay! Most people feel nervous about going to therapy for the first time. We will have a complimentary phone consultation to give us a chance to get to know each other a bit and to ensure we will be a good fit for working together. This will give you a chance to ask any questions or express concerns before booking your first session.

It’s completely normal to feel unsure at first but don’t worry, I’ll guide the conversation in the beginning, and you’re never expected to have it all figured out. Im pretty friendly and you’ll get the hang of it in no time.

What to Expect in Your Counselling Sessions

The first session is about getting to know you—your concerns, and what you’d like to gain from therapy. We’ll work together to create a treatment plan based on your goals and that is measurable so you will know whether or not our work together is actually helping you. You’ll leave your first session with an actionable plan that is tailored just for you.

The frequency depends on your needs. Some people attend weekly, others biweekly or monthly. We’ll determine what works best for you.

No, you are always in control of what you share and when. Therapy is a gradual process, and we move at a pace that feels right for you.

Crying is a natural and normal part of processing emotions, and this is a judgment-free space. If you need to pause or take a moment, that’s completely okay. I’m here with you every step of the way.

Yes! I offer both in-person and virtual counselling to accommodate different needs and locations. Accelerated Resolution Therapy sessions are the exception and are held in person.
